Programs Current Schedule – Fall 2017

New Programs begin September 14th

As primarily a community supported youth center, Building Twentyone seeks to provide programs at little to no cost to participating students. The reality is, there is a price associated with providing trained staff, supplies, and a facility to accommodate the increasing number of youth enjoying the opportunities at Building Twentyone each year. Scholarships are available to students that apply and qualify. Click here for the Scholarship Application.

As a guide for the Sliding Scale Fee, please refer from the table below. We ask that if you can pay for regular prices(Level A), please help us keep programs available to students. Level B prices are “on your honor.” Level C prices are made in person and provide EBT(bridge card) as proof. Please contact us if you have other hardships keeping you from signing up for our programs! Please call 517-889-5103 and we can help you with registration.

Culinary Arts – Cooking: Mondays, 4-5:30pm

A very popular program since we began it 2 years ago, our chef Chris Fox from MSU’s Culinary Team is back to continue teaching culinary skills for all experience levels. This year we’ll have a little longer in the class for opportunities in baking, sauces, and more. As an added bonus, students get to eat what they make, and everyone loves food.

  • Program fee Level A: $49
  • Program fee Level B: $35
  • Program fee Level C: $20

Artistic Crossfit: Wednesdays, 4-5pm. September 20th – November 29th.

CrossFit changes lives, but these changes happen on an individual and local level. Youth will be apart of a community where they sweat alongside other members of their local community – firefighters, lawyers, doctors, businessmen, soccer moms, etc. CrossFit offers a positive framework and community to help at-risk youth grow into stronger and healthier individuals – both physically and mentally. Bring your own workout clothes, gym shoes, and water bottle.

  • Program fee Level A: $49
  • Program fee Level B: $35
  • Program fee Level C: $20

Video Game Design w/ Raspberry Pi: Tuesdays, 4-5pm. September 19th – November 28th

In a partnership with itec of Lansing, students will learn game design and a coding language called Python to program their own Raspberry Pi (a credit card sized computer) that they get to keep!

  • Program fee Level A: $139
  • Program fee Level B: $99
  • Program fee Level C: $59

Elevate Students: Thursdays 3:30-5pm. September 14th – November 30th

This program is FREE!

Designed to help students navigate the uncharted territory of their teenage years. By charting a course that elevates students’ character, self esteem, academic success, and leadership abilities; teenagers learn to choose a life of HONOR. Much of life is a series of choices. Through interactive activities, students learn to evaluate their choices and make decisions based on what honors (elevates) themselves, their futures, and others.
